We are very cool when we come across projects like today. We bring you this Hanway Raw 125 in its Café Racer version , which our client Omar had between eyebrows to personalize.
The project had already started with some details such as the paint on the shock absorber and the rear footpegs, the rear-view mirrors on the ends of the handlebars, the filter cover, suitcases ... etc. This was already a huge departure from her stock image, but she needed the exact paint she had in mind to be the queen of the garage.
Therefore, here is the step by step that Omar did to paint his motorcycle. Seeing the results, we couldn't resist being taught by her experience.
The first step is to disassemble the pieces that we want to paint. This process can be somewhat tedious depending on each one, so better find your favorite album and a good coffee / beer / whiskey on hand (I leave this to your choice)
Then, with your gloves on (otherwise there will be no one to hold the accelerator), start sanding all the necessary pieces.
Once you have all the pieces ready, we recommend giving them a good cleaning. It is very important that the surface is well cleaned and degreased so as not to have adhesion problems.
To the mess! Now it's time to work
Apply a coat of primer to the damaged areas. Let dry for 40 minutes and sand with a P500. If there are still any imperfections that have not been fully covered, reapply filler until the entire surface is even.
Painting shift. Some advices:
1. It is better to apply several very thin coats to avoid dripping.
2.Keep a safe distance of about 15cm to spray the paint.
3. Between coats, let it dry for approximately 2 minutes and apply as many thin coats as necessary until everything is homogeneous.
Come on, after the last layer forget about the pieces for 1 hour.
For the paint to be resistant you must apply the varnish .
Give the paint and varnish a little time to cure and gain strength (about 72 hours or so ). It does not have to be in the most professional place in the world, as you can see, the use of a clothesline does not take us away from a premium drying 😝
When the drying is finished, we will see our patient and recall the montage. An important tip is to point out when disassembling where each screw goes, that this is not an Ikea furniture even if you are going to sit on it too.
How about? The change is radical if we compare it with the series model, nothing to do with it. We are almost as happy with the result as its owner, who is very proud of his bike and especially having made it himself. Who knows ... in the end I will end up taking up that project for a Vespa Iris 200 ... but I'd better tell you about it another day.
