The chain of your motorcycle is one of the components that make the most effort during the normal operation of the motorcycle. In addition, due to its position and function, it is exposed and requires more maintenance.
The motorcycle chain is made of metals and alloys that trap moisture and other contaminants. If the chain is not taken care of with the attention it deserves, rust will form in some areas, which will weaken the metals and make them susceptible to breakage.
First, clean the chain of the motorcycle
Before worrying about anything else, make sure the motorcycle chain is clean and has no dirt or moisture at its joints. These are the ideal place for rust and later corrosion.
To clean a motorcycle chain, we recommend using two brushes: one with soft bristles and the other with hard bristles, to ensure that no contaminant will stick to any surface and between any joints.
Take a bottle of multipurpose lubricant and generously spray the entire chain of the motorcycle. If it is very dirty, first let the Loose Fit set, then take the stiff bristle brush and scrub all the sections and links of the chain. Spray the chain again with multipurpose lubricant, and now use the soft bristle brush and go back to carving. This will prevent moisture from being trapped between the chain links, thanks to the water repellent qualities of the Aflojatodo.
Lubricate the chain
Once the chain is clean, get rid of the residual multipurpose lubricant from the chain, as it can prevent the grease from sticking properly to the chain, and prevent protection. Take a small brush and apply the lubricating grease to as many sections as you can reach. Make sure that the rear wheel moves so that the sprockets distribute the excess lubricating grease where the brush did not reach.
You can use a multilithium grease that will help keep moisture away from the chain, as well as being very resistant against washing and water on the pavement. It also protects against rust and corrosion.
Your motorcycle chain takes a lot of effort, but it won't take as much on your part to extend its life if you do it regularly. Plus, you'll ensure it won't break when you're rolling, leaving you halfway there and putting yourself and others at risk. Take a tour of our blog to see how easy it is to keep your motorcycle at its best.
