What will you need to regulate the valves of your motorcycle?
First of all you will need to have a series of essential tools to be able to adjust the valves yourself: a socket wrench, a 17 mm pipe wrench, a valve regulator and some probes.
If you have these tools, you will already have everything you need to regulate the valves of your motorcycle, adjusting the separation that may exist between the parts and that will make your motorcycle work correctly again . Keep in mind that high temperatures can cause the existing clearance or separation to vary, so it is important that you pay attention and that you check it periodically.
Remove the parts that cover the engine
The first thing you should do is remove the parts that cover the engine . Some parts that will vary according to the motorcycle model, so it is important that you pay attention to the instruction manual, since there you will be indicated of any aspect that you must take into account for its removal.
It is important that before proceeding to remove the parts you have allowed the engine to cool down, and for this it is best to remove the valve caps, helping yourself with a socket wrench.
Crank the motor
The next step will be to turn the engine counterclockwise, and for this you will need a 17mm socket wrench . To be able to turn the engine, you must first remove the plugs that cover the crankshaft, and then try to leave it in the top dead center position, just when the intake valve has just closed.
If you look you will see how there are marks on the engine pointing to different positions . Pay attention to the one located on the tamper at the top, since it is the one you are interested in modifying.
Check the instruction manual
The next thing will be to go to the instruction manual of your motorcycle to know the exact separation that must exist between the intake valve and the exhaust valve , since this will vary depending on the model. For this you will have to use probes with the clearances marked in the manual, as well as a regulator.
Regulates the intake valve
It is time to regulate the intake valve , and for this you will have to remove the inspection plug, place the corresponding probe and adjust the regulator until you notice that it has made contact with the probe. Then firmly tighten the locknut installed on the regulator and repeat this process but this time with the exhaust valve .
And to finish calibrating the valves of your motorcycle ...
To finish you will have to replace the engine protectors, installing the removed plugs and thus regulate the valves successfully. It is not too complicated, but we do recommend that you do it carefully.
